Dry season · Dec–Apr
Sunniest skies, the easiest road conditions, and lighter, beginner-friendly surf. The most popular time to visit — and the peak for offshore fishing.
When to go
There's no bad time — just different seasons for surf, sun, wildlife and solitude.
Cambutal has two broad seasons: the dry season (roughly December–April) and the green, or rainy, season (roughly May–November). Each has a distinct character, and the 'best' time really depends on what you're chasing — clean sunny days, the biggest swells, whales offshore, or simply the lowest prices and the quietest beaches.

For sunshine and the calmest seas, come in the dry season (December–April). For the most consistent surf and humpback whales offshore, aim for July–October in the green season. June is the quietest and best-value month of all.
There's surf year-round, but the most consistent and largest swells arrive roughly April through October. Dry-season months (December–April) tend to offer lighter, more beginner-friendly waves.
Humpback whales migrate past Panama's Pacific coast roughly from July to October, with August often the peak — boat trips offshore give you the best chance of seeing them.
During the green season (May–November) you can expect rain, but it typically comes as afternoon or overnight showers rather than all-day downpours — mornings are often clear. The dry season (December–April) sees very little rain.
Rarely. Cambutal is one of the quietest surf destinations in Panama. The dry season and holidays are the busiest, but even then the beaches and lineups stay uncrowded. The green season is quieter still.
